about

When I hear R&B played and sung for real I get a bit swoony. I first heard Benny at the Bendigo Hotel and had a mini stroke. I finally met him one Sunday afternoon at one of the best gigs ever run by Duncan Stewart, one of the best men ever, at the St Kilda Bowls Club. Benny's got it all going on and I was a little nervous to ask him to sing with me. I'd sat in with his band but duetting is a bit more of a commitment. Sitting in is like a first date. A duet is like going steady. Lucky for me he said yes and i chose this cheerful song about a lover contemplating suicide by Freddy Fender for us.

lyrics

Well I'm goin' down to the river, going to go out with the tide, cos my baby doesn't love me and we said our last goodbyes.
